Resting energy (kcal/day) = 10 × weight (kg) + 6.25 × height (cm) − 5 × age + sex constant (+5 male, −161 female). Resting energy is rounded to whole kcal. Daily energy = resting energy × activity factor. kJ = kcal × 4.184.
Worked example
For a 35-year-old woman at 70 kg and 175 cm, rounded resting energy is 1,458 kcal/day. With an activity factor of 1.375, estimated daily energy is 2,004.75 kcal or 8,388 kJ.
